Candlelight Restorative

This class is taught by:

Melanie Summers

Melanie’s first yoga experience came at the age of 17 when she and her mother attended a vinyasa style class together in her hometown of Chandler, Arizona. She had recently left competitive swimming due to injury and was looking for an activity to fill that void. She gradually began practicing more frequently, exploring the spiritual nature of the practice in addition to the physical. Melanie was inspired to pursue teacher training upon going on a week-long yoga retreat, hoping to expand her breadth of knowledge and deepen her personal practice. After graduating from college and moving to Redlands for her job she finally found the opportunity to do so, studying under Phil and Sandrine at Inner Evolution. She quickly realized that she had a passion for teaching yoga, grounded in a philosophy of mindful alignment and movement with breath. Melanie believes the practice is deeply personal and the asana should be modified to the individual. She works to bring all limbs of yoga into her practice on and off the mat and hopes to instill that in those she teaches.

Lisa Villalpando

My introduction to yoga was in 2007. It was offered through a wellness program by my employer. It was a community oriented class held in a conference room twice weekly. I was eager to learn and I was hooked. I was a runner at the time, experiencing sore knees and taking a daily dose of Ibuprofen. Practicing yoga , I found I no longer awoke feeling sore and discontinued the anti-inflammatories. I began training for my first marathon the summer of 2009, and yoga remained a nice compliment to a grueling training schedule. I was in the best shape of my life, feeling confident and happy! I finished the Surf City Marathon on February 7, 2010. The following week, on February 13, 2010, I experienced an unimaginable tragedy. Since then, yoga has meant much more than helping me through marathons. Yoga has helped me through life. There have been many dark days and I knew I could always come to my mat and feel safe. I know, first hand, the true meaning of mind-body connection as I had lost mine for quite some time. Yet I kept coming back to my mat and eventually felt overtime I was gaining more awareness and equanimity in my heart and mind. I’ve had the honor to practice at Inner Evolution since the Studio opened, June 1, 2010. IEY has played an integral role in helping me through grief, sorrow, anger and healing. I completed my 200 hour Teacher Training with Inner Evolution Yoga, August 2014 and I am excited to share this gift we call Yoga with others.
